Two More Enlist
Two more Lowell boys, Charles Tanner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Tanner, and George Minninger, son of the late Mat Minninger, have enlisted in the army, both boys going into the coast artillery service. They will leave today for Ft. Wayne and from there will go to Columbus, Ohio.
In the May 17, 1917, issue of The Lowell Tribune (page 4, column 1), Charles Tanner is listed as serving in the U.S. Army. Surprisingly enough, the name Charles Tanner also appears under the heading "Coast Artillery" -- on the same page and column! Either there were two men by this name, or there was some confusion about whether or not he was in the military. Charles Tanner's name did not appear on the Oct. 24, 1918, Lowell Tribune list of local World War I veterans.
