During his sixteen weeks of intensive training, he attended classes on general military subjects and had practical work in the many combat skills, He also learned to fire the basic Army weapons -- the M-I rifle, carbine, mortar, .45 pistol and light machine gun.
As a prospective infantry rifleman, he received special training in scouting and patrolling and squad, platoon and rifle company tactics.
He entered the Army of February 28, 1952.
