A map of the proposed canal system throughout Indiana outlines the six routes: No. 1: Ohio Falls Canal; No. 2: Wabash and Erie Canal; No. 3: Whitewater Canal; No. 4: Richmond and Brookville Canal; No. 5: Central Canal; No. 6: Erie and Michigan Canal. Numbers 6a, 6b, 6c and 6d were proposed to link the Wabash Valley with Lake Michigan. The Wabash and Erie Canal and the Whitewater Canal were the only two completed.
This map was included in the July 29, 1997, "Pioneer History" column by Town Historian Richard Schmal.
