NEAR DISASTROUS FIRE
Last Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Yott of Lake Village celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and extended an invitation to their neighbors and friends to come and spend the evening with them in Stoner hall, which they had rented for that purpose. There was a large crowd present and everyone was having a good time. In the back part of the room was a Coleman stove and as the little folks were asleep there it was thought best to start a fire in the stove. The generator was lighted but the gas was turned on before it was hot enough, and immediately the gas came out, a flame shot all over the south end of the room, cutting any way to escape down the stairway. The people became frantic and we are informed that but for the presence of mind of the minister of the church there who quieted the people so that efforts could be made to get the fire put out, that many would have been killed. The fire was finally put out and although several ladies were quite badly burned, there was no serious damage.
