"Well, sir, you know we are pretty well established in Indiana and Illinois and under ordinary conditions that prevail as a rule in the two best states in the Union we do considerable business, but I want to say this to you: The year 1916 has been the largest out firm has had in the 25 years of experience. I have just closed a contract with the Schaaf family, one of the prominent and influential families of Hammond, for one of the finest monuments in that locality. Another by Mrs. Dr. H.R. Wilson, of Hebron, for one of the very best monuments ever placed in or around there. Mrs. Williams Batterman and Mrs. Bernice Donch, of Crown Point; Mrs. George Mumm, of Grant Park; Henry Beckman, of Hammond; and a dozen others. Why should I not be thankful to those who have entrusted me with these orders? I am, and I have this to say, any time our work does not prove to be as recommended it will be a great pleasure to make it good. I have just received word from my brother, who has charge of one of our places in Illinois, saying he has just closed a contract at Monticello, Ill., to build one single monument at a cost of $3500, another at Farmer City at $1000, and we have on our books thousands of dollars worth of work for spring delivery. From a business point of view should I not be pleased? We also have orders for quite a number of very nice monuments in our home cemetery, to the memory of Charles Anderson, Mrs. Joseph Dinwiddie, Mrs. W.C. Quincy; also a very beautiful monument for West Creek, ordered by Mrs. Thorington."
