Peter Burns last week purchased the Lowell Dairy from James Jensen. Mr. Jensen established the Lowell Dairy 14 years ago and has gained an enviable reputation for quality products and service. Patrons will be glad to learn that Norman Jones, Norman Turner and Bob Marschel will continue on their routes. Mr. and Mrs. Burns, their son and daughter, both of whom are in college, are residents of Gary where for the past 22 years Mr. Burns had been a valuable employee of the Dixie Dairy. They will move to Lowell in the very near future. Lowell folks extend them a hearty welcome and wish the Lowell Dairy continued prosperity.
According to Sandy Turner Fuller, daughter of Norman "Stub" Turner, Mr. Jensen bottled milk at Lowell Dairy in 1937. The building is now [2001] the site of Carlson Electric. At the time Pete Burns bought the dairy from Mr. Jensen in 1951, they no longer bottled milk there, and the dairy was located on Mill Street where Lowell Auto is now located. Sandy's father, "Stub" Turner, began as a deliveryman for Lowell Dairy, but bought the business in 1961. In 1971 he sold it to Chuck Peterson, and in 1976 the business was disbanded.
