Promoted to Private First Class

It is now Pfc. Garland Fish, the promotion coming a few days ago. Garland is stationed with the field artillery at Camp Van Dorn, Miss. He enlisted for service in December.

A letter received by Mrs. Ruby McKay from her brother, Garland Fish, stationed with the field artillery at Camp Van Dorn, Miss., states that he has been promoted from Private First Class to Corporal.

Cpl. Garland Fish, who is stationed at Camp Van Dorn, Miss., is here spending a few days with his father, Byrl Fish, and sister and brothers.

Sgt. Garland Fish, who is stationed at Camp Maxie, Texas, left for camp Saturday after spending a 3-day furlough at home here. He has been transferred to the air corps and did not know when he left here where he would be sent for training.

Sgt. Garland Fish is now an aviation cadet and is taking his training at Sheppard Field, Texas, before entering college, according to his sister, Mrs. Ruth McKay, Lowell. Garland likes the new branch of service very much.

Word received from Sgt. Garland Fish, stationed at Sheppard Field, Texas, says that after passing his examination as a pilot, the air corps has quit placing men as pilots for the time being. Garland is still a member of the ground crew.

SGT. GARLAND E. FISH MARRIES ROCKFORD GIRL

In a simple but impressive ceremony, witnessed only by the bride's immediate family, Miss Anna Lucile Resler, daughter of Mrs. H.M. Waterman of Rockford, Illinois, became the bride of Sgt. Garland E. Fish, son of Burl Fish of Sheldon, Ill., formerly of Lowell.

The single ring ceremony was performed by Rev. W.L. Sherman in the Grace Methodist church in Rockford, on Monday, June 26, at 2 p.m.

The bride wore a street-length dress of navy blue with a large white frilly collar and chose accessories of navy and white. Her corsage was of carnations and tea roses. The bride's mother also wore navy blue and had a corsage of white carnations.

The bride is a niece of Mrs. Arthur Edmondson and during her many visits in the Edmondson home has made many friends in Lowell.

The groom, before his enlistment in the U.S. army, made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Keith Dinwiddie and is a graduate of Lowell high school. The bride is a graduate of Rockford high school.

Following a honeymoon spent here with the bride's aunt and family, and the groom's sister, Mrs. Glen McKay, and brother, Nolan Fish and families, the groom will return to his station at Ft. Sill, Okla., and the bride to Rockford, where she is employed.

Taking Officers' Training

Sgt. Garland Fish writes his sister, Mrs. Ruby McKay, that he has been transferred from Ft. Gruber, Okla., to Ft. Benning, Georgia, where he is now starting officers' training.

Sgt. Garland Fish, stationed at Camp Wheeler, Ga., accompanied by his wife, is visiting his sister, Mrs. Glen McKay, and brother, Nolan Fish, and families, and her aunt, Mrs. Arthur Edmondson, and family.

S/Sgt. Garland Fish and wife, who visited relatives here for two weeks, have returned to Camp Wheeler, Ga., where he is stationed. Garland has recently received a promotion to S/Sgt. from Sgt. and will train recruits at the camp when he returns to duty.

IRTC, Camp Wheeler, Ga. -- By order of Maj. Gen. Thomas G. Hearn, commanding general of the nation's first Infantry Replacement Training Center, Sgt. Garland Fish, Lowell, has been promoted to the grade of Staff Sergeant.

S/Sgt. Garland E. Fish of Camp Wheeler, Ga., arrived Sunday afternoon for a brief visit with his wife, who is spending some time with Sgt. Fish's sister, Mrs. Ruby McKay, and Mrs. Fish's aunt, Mrs. Arthur Edmondson.

T/Sgt. Garland Fish spent Christmas here with his wife and sister, returning to camp yesterday.

T/Sgt. Garland Fish and Pfc. Junior Alyea arrived home last week with their discharge papers from Uncle Sam's Army. Junior has been overseas 14 months with the 75th infantry and Garland, who has been stationed in Massachusetts for some time, received his discharge at Fort Devens, Mass.
