Millard had always resided with his parents on farms in the vicinity of Sherburnville. For the past few years the family have operated both their own farm on the state line and the T.H. Dyer farm at Sherburnville, living on the latter.
Millard had a strong sense of responsibility and lived a life of industry. He was kind, considerate, helpful, sympathetic, honest, clean-minded and devoted to his parents. Throughout his boyhood he attended the local Sunday school and has always been interested in the religious activities of the community. At the present time he was a member of the Senior Class of the Christian Sunday school here.
While he had been ill, news of his death came as a shock to everyone.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his father and mother, one sister, Mrs. Theodore Ferris*, of Thornton, Ill.; four brothers, Elwin, of Hammond, Glen, Gerald and Clayton, living at home, besides numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
The body was brought to the funeral parlors at Grant Park by P.A. Hubbell, the director in charge. Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 22, at 2 o'clock at the Sherburnville Christian church, Rev. Roe of Grace Methodist church of Momence officiating. The music was in charge of Forrest Greisel, of Lowell. Those acting as pall bearers were: Frank Loverin, Elwood Knisley, Neil Smith, Milford Hayden, Ross Schofield and Claude Hayden. The body was interred in the Sherburnville cemetery.
Those attending the funeral from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Ferris*, Thornton, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Elwin Love, of Hammond; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Chapman of Milwaukee, Wis.; Mrs. Charles Rivers and Mr. and Mrs. Gene Soper, of Greencastle, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. John Castle, of East Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ahlgrim, of Chicago; Mrs. N. Guy Ayers, of Gary; Mr. and Mrs. Hope Love and Mr. and Mrs. Vern Love, of Chicago Heights; Virgil Love, Mrs. R.C. Canfield and daughter, Mrs. Silas Starkey, of Hammond; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Starkey, of Hessville.
To the bereaved family the entire community extends sincere sympathy.
