Indianapolis, Feb. 28 -- (Special) -- Harvey Ivan Parks, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Parks, Lowell, was inducted into the U.S. marine corps last week and is now receiving basic training at the marine corps base at San Diego, Calif., according to an announcement by Major Ralph E. Boulton, officer in charge of marine corps induction and recruiting in Indiana.
A March 16, 1944, Lowell Tribune article (page 1, column 2) listed Harvey I Parks of Lowell as a the recent marine volunteer from Lake County Board No. 1, Crown Point, being sworn in at Ft. Benjamin Harrison.

Pvt. Harvey Parks enlisted in the Marine Corps a few weeks ago, and is now taking his basic training at San Diego, Calif.

To Leave for Overseas Duty
Pvt. Harvey Parks, of the U.S. Marines, telephoned his sister, Mrs. Dan Fleener, last Thursday at 1:15 a.m. that he was leaving the States for an unknown destination overseas. Harvey, a son of the Ross Parks, said he was feeling fine. He has been stationed at Camp Elliott, Calif.

H.I. Parks Promoted
Marine Technical Sergeant Harvey I. Parks, a former Lowell resident, before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps., was recently promoted from the grade of Staff Sergeant to his present rank of Technical Sergeant.
Parks is a member of the Marine Recruiting Service assigned to Peoria, Ill. Prior to being assigned to recruiting duty he had traveled with the Marines and has seen action throughout World War II in the South Pacific and the Orient.
