The funeral was held at the West Creek M.E. Church, Thursday, Mar. 4th, after which the remains were laid to rest by the side of her husband who died in 1857.
While a small girl her parents moved to Montrose County, Michigan, where in 1832 she was united in marriage to H.M. Spalding. In 1837 they came west and settled in West Creek Township, Lake County, Ind. She endured the hardships of a pioneer life, and went much among the sick, especially while the country was new, there being much sickness. Mrs. Spalding was the mother of nine children, five of whom survive her. At 14 years of age she was united with the M.E. Church and was an earnest and devoted Christian until death. She was followed to the grave by many of the old friends and neighbors. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Sites, of the M.E. Church, assisted by Rev. Smith, of Lake Prairie Presbyterian Church.
