Established in 1885 by H.H. Ragon, the Lowell Tribune was being published each Thursday in this building on the south side of Commercial avenue, first building east of the Lowell National bank where Virginia's Beauty Shop is now when this photo was taken in 1895. In the window is displayed a notice of activities of the G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic). H.H., a proud Civil War captain, served as a commander of the local organization.
Type was set by hand and the very few pieces of mechanized equipment owned were powered by gasoline engines. Grandfather Ragon's old kerosene wall lamp is a museum piece which the Tribune prizes.
