
This map, from an original 1876 atlas of Indiana, plainly shows the large mill pond that covered many acres of land at the north edge of the Town of Lowell. Cedar Creek and the mill races for the saw mill and grist mill are shown on the left. The stream meandered toward the east where both Fremont and Union Streets stopped at the water's edge. Halsted Street was not there. Mill Street is the first on the left. What is now Commercial Ave. is shown on the map as Clark St. This could have been a mistake by the map maker..
