The following was taken from the June 14, 2002, Lowell Resident Guide (page 10):
History
Melvin Halsted, one of the original residents of Lowell, built the Halsted house in 1850. His family lived and owned the house until his death in 1915. In the decades after Melvin Halsted's death, his home passed through the hands of numerous owners and renters. This practice went on for years until the early 1980's when the Tri Creek Historical Association purchased the Halsted house.
Restoration
The Tri-Creek Historical Association has been working on restoring the Halsted house for the past five years. The major exterior renovation included new roofing and gutter systems and the interior renovations included refinishing of the original wood floors, woodwork, and walls. Along with all these changes a new heating and air-conditioning system was installed through donations. The Tri-Creek Historical Association plans to refurnish the interior of the home in early 1900's antique furniture relevant to the time the Halsteds owned the home. The restoration plans were made with the intent of making it a living museum featuring the history of both the Halsted family and the Town of Lowell.
Grand Opening
The grand opening of the Halsted house is planned for Sunday August 4th. The events are open to the public and will take place following the one o'clock dedication at the old grade school. The grand opening of the Halsted house will be followed by an ice cream social on the Halsted property. Everyone is invited to attend.
