Upon June 17, 1900, she was united in marriage to Edward Yates, of Watseka, Ill., by M.J. Sanders, J.P.
She was the mother of three children, two having died in infancy, Earl D., one year and four months old, survives her, besides her husband, father and mother and one brother, Charley. She received her education at our public schools and at Valparaiso and was a teacher for some seven or eight years, rendering to the community and the young people who were her students most efficient service. As a teacher in the institutes she was universally loved by all and easily became the favorite of both young and old. Her gentle, affable and womanly ways won for her the huge esteem and favor of all who knew her.
At the age of fifteen years she gave her heart to Christ and became a member of the Christian church under the pastorage of Elder W.A. Hennager. Her inherent disposition of Christian cheerfulness carried a ray of sunshine to all about her.
In her last sickness her constant and sublime faith in prayers to God for the loved and absent ones was like a benediction from Heaven. Her buoyant hopes ever kept her thoughts on Him who hears the young ravens when they cry. Her death, which apparently came without suffering at last, was as beautiful as had been her faithful life.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. A.M. Hootman from the Christian church Saturday, Feb. 3, at 1 o'clock p.m. There was a large gathering of relatives and friends in attendance, and all present were deeply moved by the impressive sermon of the pastor and the beautiful songs of the choir. The remains, which were in charge of Funeral Director Castle, were interred in the Lowell cemetery. The bereaved ones have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in their hours of sad affliction.
