Four years ago, after the closing of the Catholic church at Klaasville, he moved to Hammond, where he was employed by the F.S. Betz Company.
Four weeks ago he moved to Lowell, Indiana, where he could be nearer the church, and thus practice the duties of his holy religion more fully.
He passed away on Friday, April 20, 1917, after an illness of several days, having been a patient sufferer. He is survived by three sisters, Miss Louisa Berg, Mrs. Louis Berg, Sr., Mrs. Mary Weber of Lowell, and a brother, Bernard Berg, of Hammond, Indiana, also a host of nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
The deceased was a most kind and loving brother and true friend, and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him. He was always ready to extend a helping hand in any good work, and the world was better for his having lived in it. He conscientiously performed every duty of the various positions he held, and was held in the highest respect by everyone with whom he came in contact.
The funeral, which was largely attended by relatives and friends, was held at St. Edward's church, of Lowell at 9 o'clock a.m., Tuesday April 24th, 1917. Rev. H. Hoerstman officiated at Requiem High Mass. The church was filled to its capacity, showing the esteem in which the deceased was held.
Interment was made in the Klaasville cemetery. The Hanover Center Court of Catholic Order of Foresters, of which the deceased was a member, attended the services in a body, and acted as pallbearers. Many out-of-town relatives and friends attended the funeral.
