Mr. Casey was riding in a wagon hitched to a team of horses which were being driven by Garland Grant. The animals became frightened and Mr. Casey attempted to jump from the vehicle, with the above mentioned results.
The victim was rushed to the Jasper county hospital. -- Rensselaer Republican.
George Casey died at the Jasper county hospital at 3:40 o'clock Thursday afternoon from a fractured skull which he sustained a few minutes before when he was thrown violently to the road after leaping from a wagon. The back of the victim's head was crushed and his death was certain from the very first.
The deceased was 73 years of age, having been born in Ohio, April 9, 1851. When quite a young boy he came to Jasper country with his parents and continued to reside in and near Rensselaer until the time of his death. His life was spent in farming. About seven years ago he retired from active life and located on a small tract just north of this city.
Mr. Casey is survived by his wife and seven children. The children are Mrs. Charles Larkin, of Parr, Mrs. William Markin, of Barkley township, Mrs. Harry Swartzell, of this city, Edward Casey, of Gary, George and Otto Casey, of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Clarence Garriott, of Valparaiso. -- Tuesday's Rensselaer Republican.
Mr. Casey and wife lived here several years ago, and he had many friends here who regret to hear of his death.
