The Lowell Star, Aug. 17, 1872, page 5, column 3, had a list of soldiers who were supporters of Grant in that election. Among them was Godfrey Frank of the 1st Ill. Art. This is probably the same man as the G.G. Franck of Boutin's IL Bat. listed on the Three Creeks Monument. Boutin's Battery was the nickname given to the 1st Illinois Light Artillery, Battery I. According to an Internet source on Illinois Civil War veterans, Godfried Frank (notice the different spellings of the name) served as a private in Company I of 1 IL US Art. He registered as coming from Kankakee.
