In a May 25, 1944, Lowell Tribune article (page 1, column 2), Lloyd Hathaway of Crown Point was listed as an Army volunteer and a father. Another article from the same issue of the paper (page 2, columns 1-2) added the following:
Transferred to Ft. Riley, Kansas
Pvt. Eugene Black, Pvt. Lloyd Hathaway and Pvt. Victor Love, who entered the armed forces last week, have been transferred to Ft. Riley, Kansas, for their basic training.
The following May 10, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 3, column 1:
Writes Wife
A letter has been received by Mrs. Lloyd Hathaway from her husband, Pfc. Lloyd Hathaway, saying that he is getting along fine. Lloyd, a member of the Mars task force, which opened the Burma road, has been serving Uncle Sam for one year. Mrs. Hathaway and daughter now make their home at Crown Point.
