A phone call Monday afternoon to Mr. and Mrs. Bert C. Hayden told of the serious illness of their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Sherrill B. Hayden, who is confined in Methodist hospital, Peroria, Ill. Sherrill, home on furlough from Fort Sheridan, is spending much time with her until her condition is improved and she is able to return home.
This February 17, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
Pfc. Sherrill Hayden, stationed at Fort Sheridan, Ill., where he is an instructor in a Special Training Unit, spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert C. Hayden. He reports that Mrs. Hayden, who has been seriously ill the past seven weeks, is now convalescing at the home of her sister near Peoria.
This April 6, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 5:
Pfc. Sherrill Hayden and wife, of Ft. Sheridan, Ill., spent the week-end in Lowell and attended [an] "open house" held for Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hayden of Calif., at the Oakland school Saturday evening.
The following June 8, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 3:
Cpl. Sherill Hayden, Sixth Service Command, of Ft. Sheridan, Ill., accompanied by his wife, who now lives at Highland Park, Ill., to be near her husband, spent from Thursday to Sunday evening with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert C. Hayden and other relatives.
The following July 13, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 3:
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Clark, Shirley and Donnie, and Mr. and Mrs. Bert C. Hayden spent Sunday with Cpl. and Mrs. Sherrill Hayden at Highland Park, Ill. Sherrill, stationed at Fort Sheridan, was on leave from duty for the day, and enjoying a picnic dinner and visiting with home folks at City Park, just above one of Lake Michigan's many fine bathing beaches. In the afternoon they visited Ft. Sheridan and Great Lakes Naval Training Station.
This August 31, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 3:
Cpl. and Mrs. Sherrill Hayden of Fort Sheridan and Highland Park, Ill., spent the past week-end with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert C. Hayden.
The following December 28, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 4:
Christmas day dinner guests in the Bert C. Hayden home were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hayden, Mr. and Mrs. Murray Hayden, Arthur Hayden and T/Sgt. Sherrill Hayden and wife of Fort Sheridan, Ill.
Another artilce on page 8 column 3 gives the following information:
After spending Christmas day here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert C. Hayen, T/Sgt. Sherrill Hayden and wife returned to Highland Park, Monday evening.
This Lowell Tribune article was found in the March 15, 1945, issue (page 5, column 3):
T/Sgt. and Mrs. Sherrill Hayden of Ft. Sheridan, Ill., and Mrs. Solon Hayden and son, Merwin, of Chicago, were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bert C. Hayden.
This August 9, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 6:
T/4 and Mrs. Sherrill Hayden of Fort Sheridan, Ill., are spending several days here this week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert C. Hayden and other relatives.
This September 27, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 3, column 1:
T/4 Sherrill Hayden, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert C. Hayden of Lowell, who received his discharge at Fort Sheridan, last week, after over two years in the service as an instructor in a special training unit, will return to his duties as Social Science teacher in Princeville, Ill., community high school, October 1.
