The following unidentified newspaper article was found in the Helen Craft scrapbook, owned by town historian Richard Schmal.
George B. Hopkins was born in Laporte county, November 20, 1843, and died at his home near Grovertown, Ind., February 1, 1899, at the age of 55 years, 2 months and 21 days. He was a soldier in the war of the Rebellion, and did his full share as such to save this country from destruction. He leaves his wife, seven children, seven sisters, Mrs. Calkins, of Wisconsin, Mrs. Blue, of North Judson, Ind., Mrs. J.L. Ackerman and Mrs. Jewett, both of Stanton, Nebr., Mrs. Loyal Lampher, of Iowa, and Mrs. M.J. Sanders and Mrs. Mortimer Castle, both of Lowell, two brothers whose residence is unknown. Interment at Walkerton, Ind. THE TRIBUNE extends sympathy to the bereaved family and friends.
