Maude Nies Kolling (1884-1904)
(Mrs. Joseph Kolling)
The following unidentified newspaper article was found in a scrapbook owned by Betty Burton of Lowell:
Maude Kolling, beloved wife of Joseph Kolling, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Nies, was born at Hammond, Indiana, October 30, 1884. She was married to Joseph Kolling, June 29, 1903, and died at the home of her parents February 14, 1904, aged 19 years, 4 months and 15 days.
Her funeral occurred from the Christian church, Lowell, Wednesday at 2 p.m. Rev. D.D. Hoagland preached the funeral discourse. He was assisted in the services by Rev. C.L. McKim, pastor of the Christian church. The casket was covered by a profusion of flowers brought by friends. Funeral Director John Castle had charge of the burial services. Interment in the Lowell cemetery. She leaves her husband, infant babe, father and mother, one brother and many relatives and friends to mourn her demise, to whom the TRIBUNE extends sincere sympathy in their great sorrow and bereavement.
Maude is gone, but still there lingers
A fond memory in each heart.
We shall miss her, O so sadly,
As from us she drifts apart.
Jesus called her, and she answered
To his everlasting call,
Earth is past; her gain is heaven;
"Asleep in Jesus," that is all.
