Andrew was the youngest of eight children born to Mr. and Mrs. Martin. At eight years of age his parents moved with their family to a farm south-west of Lowell near Pine Grove Cemetery; here Andrew graduated from the Public school and then attended high school at Lowell.
In 1913 with his brother Robert and his Mother, he moved to their present home in Schneider and there took up the barber trade.
Three years ago ill health forced him to give up his trade and from then on he rapidly failed. Thinking to get relief from his suffering he underwent an operation at Hammond, Indiana; however relief was but temporary and in his search for health he resorted to the Mayo Clinic at Rochester, Minn., there he was informed that the only road to health and recovery lay in a series of successive operations over a period of four months. The first operation was passed through successfully and he had returned on March 10 for the second. Following the second one his condition became critical and the surgeon sought further relief but to no avail and at 8:30 A.M., March 28, he passed away.
In suffering he proved himself a Stoic, enduring almost beyond human comprehension, and through all this he remained cheerful and hopeful to the last. Of his burdens and pains he never complained nor gave up, that health and total recovery would soon be his. He was a loving and dutiful son in the home. In his later life every request found him willing to aid worthy causes. Although not affiliated with any church, the work of the church was in harmony with his convictions for he regularly gave to the carrying on of its work.
Left to mourn his departure is his Mother, Robert J., and Otto Martin, of Schneider; Frank D. Martin, of Gary; J.D. Martin, of Lowell; Mrs. Clara Lang, of Hammond; Mrs. Ella Johnson, of Hamlet, Indiana. Charles W., Etta and Lucy preceded him in death.
The funeral services was held in the First Presbyterian church of Schneider, Rev. R.B. Colton having charge, and the pall bearers were Robert Johnson, Edward Buckman, Cecil Hogan, Gus Bradberry, Carl Hesser, and John Born.
Funeral Director Sheets had charge of the burial and interment was made at the Pine Grove Cemetery.
