The following unidentified newspaper article was found in a scrapbook owned by Betty Burton of Lowell:
Surprise Party
Thursday last was the 57th birthday [of] Mrs. P.A. McNay, and a well-laid plot was successfully carried out to give her a surprise party. Her amazement can be imagined when about 40 of her friends and relatives came in on her and her sober-faced, innocent looking husband. She soon recovered and expressed her appreciation of this mark of honor. The evening was a most enjoyable one to all present, and in departing all wished this most estimable lady many returns of the occasion. She was the recipient of a number of useful presents. Thos present were: H.H. Ragon and wife, T. Sargeant and wife, Mrs. H.J. Nichols, M.A. Nichols and wife, Miss Fannie Vosburg, E.H. Ruge and wife, Mrs. Ammie Nichols and sons, W.J. Nichols and family, P.M. McNay and family, E.F. Chapman and family, Laura Hayden and sons, Hugh Nichols, Miss Sadie Nichols, Miss Ferguson, Misses Blanch and Hattie Nichols, Claude Trump, Gilbert McNay, Lewis McNay and wife, P.A. McNay and wife.
