He came to the United States with his parents at the age of six years, in the year of 1845, settling in the states of Illinois and Indiana.
He leaves to mourn their loss, one daughter, Mrs. H. Marshall of Chicago Heights, Ill., and two sons, Louis Mott, Logansport, and Eugene Mott. Tulsa, Okla.
He died at his residence in Shelby, Indiana
He enlisted as a volunteer in the U.S. army on August 3, 1886, and was a private in Company D, 42nd Regiment, Illinois Infantry.
Services were held at Shelby under the auspices of Lowell Post 101 American Legion. Rev. R.H. Crowder preached the sermon. Interment at Momence, Illinois, Sheets & Son, undertakers.
