Although in ill health for some time, he continued to keep business appointments and became seriously ill as he approached his office Friday morning.
Widely known as a shrewd attorney and sound businessman, Atty. Roberts was equally renowned for his good nature and his witty, friendly greetings. An ideal father, he lent his three sons the necessary encouragement to seek culture and education and assume responsibilities in the community he loved and served so well.
Born at Fairfield, Ill, November 6, 1886, he was the son of Atty. Charles Borah and nephew of the illustrious U.S. Senator Wm. Edgar Borah. When very young, his father located in New Orleans where he practiced his profession and his mother, who became Mrs. Edith Frazier, moved to Creston. Their young son was reared by his Grandparents Roberts.
When 17 years old, he came to Lowell from Indianapolis and continued his education, graduating from Valparaiso University Law School.
His wife, to whom he was devoted, was the former Bessie Love of Lowell. She passed away in 1947.
Atty. Roberts practiced law in South Lake County for more than 40 years. For many years he has served as legal advisor for Lowell and Cedar Creek Township. Besides his affiliation with innumerable professional and local organizations, he was a Mason and a Shriner.
Survivors include his three sons and their families, Atty. Victor J. Roberts, who became associated with his father 16 years ago, establishing the Roberts and Roberts law firm; Charles Roberts, local druggist, and Atty. Paul Roberts, who is manager of the insurance office connected with the Roberts firm. Also five half brothers, Casey Frazier of Pound, Wis.; Dale Frazier of Green Bay, Joe Frazier of near Pound; Ross Frazier of Calif., and Rex Frazier of Valparaiso, who is well known in Lowell.
His family is extended deepest sympathy by a host of friends who share their bereavement.
Memorial services will be held in the First Methodist church at two o'clock Saturday afternoon, July 11, with the Rev. Harold Hotchkiss officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Lowell cemetery beside his wife.
Friends are invited to call at the Weaver funeral home.
