He was a member of Shelby Odd Fellows lodge 742 as well as a member of the Christian church.
Melvin was united in marriage on August 16, 1916, to Alma Frank of Lansing, Ill.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Alma; two brothers, Bert of California and William of Hammond with whom he made his home. Also, two sisters, Lillian Moyer of Oak Forest and Clara Gragg of Shelby; two aunts, Mrs. Ida Shurte and Mrs. Tena Worley; and many nieces, nephews, and relatives besides a host of friends of whom he had acquired many with his ready smile and pleasant word for all.
Memorial services were held at Weaver's funeral home on Sunday afternoon, November 2, 1952, with Rev. E.L. Worley officiating. Interment was in the Lowell cemetery.
