Perry Decalvus Clark (1835-1904)

Perry D. Clark was born near Ithaca, New York, Jan. 14, 1835, and died April 17, 1904, at Pensacola, Fla., to which place he had gone three months before in hopes of benefitting his failing health. In 1837 he came to Lake County, Ind., and resided in or near Lowell since the founding of the town, excepting from 1861 to 1864, which time he resided in Iroquois County, Ill. In 1864 he enlisted in Company K, 42nd* Ill. Vol. Inf., remaining in the army until the close of the war. Since that time he has been closely connected with the business interests of Lowell, always encouraging any honest enterprise that would furnish employment for the poor, or aid in the advancement of public welfare. In 1859 he was married to Sarah J. Thorn. To this union four children were born: Harry E., of St. Paul, Minn., Frankie A., who died in infancy, Wilbur F., of Lowell, and Etta C. Vories, of Valparaiso, Ind. He leaves a wife, two sons, a daughter, eight grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. J.M. Dwyer, of Lowell, besides numerous other relatives and friends to mourn his departure.

The remains of Perry Clark arrived in Lowell on the 5:30 train from the south Tuesday morning and were taken to his late residence, where funeral services were held at 10:30, conducted by Rev. Hoagland. Appropriate songs were rendered by Mrs. J.W. Belshaw and Miss Ida Hoshaw. The remains were then taken to the Lowell cemetery under escort of the Grand Army of the Republic. John Castle had charge of the burial service. The taking away of Mr. Clark is sincerely regretted by the people of Lowell and vicinity.

NOTE -- Various articles have P.D. Clark serving in either the 42nd or the 43rd Ill. Vol. Inf. The monument in the town of Lowell lists a P.D. Clark as having served in the 43rd Ill. during the Civil War.
