She was married to John Hayden, November* 3, 1859. To this union eight children were born: Robert, of Providence Forge, Va., Mrs. Mary Beeman, Monticello, deceased; Mrs. Lizzie Hayhurst, Lowell, deceased; Alvin and Mrs. Ella Diss, Roanoke; Jesse, of Lowell; two sons, George and Willis, dying in infancy.
She also leaves 26 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one sister and six brothers.
She has always been a faithful and devoted mother to her children, sacrificing herself for them. Since her husband's death she has made her home with her children, but always being ready to join him, as life never was the same.
She united with the Christian church in early life, of which she was always a faithful member, being ready to lend a willing hand in trouble, sickness or death.
Besides her immediate family she leaves a host of relatives and friends to mourn her departure.
The remains were brought to the home of her sister, Mrs. J.P. Spalding, Tuesday week, where they remained until Wednesday.
Funeral services were held at the Sherburnville Christian church Thursday at eleven a.m. The services were attended by a large number of her friends and neighbors who knew her in life. Rev. C.A. Brown, pastor of the M.E. church at Lowell, preached the funeral sermon. Interment in the Sherburnville cemetery. Undertaker John Castle has charge of the burial service. The following nephews acted as pall bearers; Grant Hayden, Jodie Hayden, Fred Hayden, Merrit Hayden, Bert C. Hayden, and Lewellyn Smith.
