MARRIED AT HOME OF BRIDE LAST SUNDAY

Miss Iris Ruth Martin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Martin of Lowell, and Pfc. Robert E. Hoffman of Gulfport Field, Miss., son of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Hoffman, were quietly married in the bride's home at noon, Sunday.

The double ring ceremony was performed by O.E. Whitehouse, pastor of the Lowell Church of Christ. Attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Elman Atwood of Hammond. Miss Esteline Whitehouse favored with two piano solos, "I Love You Truly" and "I Promise You."

Pfc. Hoffman will return to his base this week and his bride will continue her studies at Lowell high school. She will graduate this spring.

Pvt. Robert Hoffman has been home from Gulfport, Miss., the past ten days. He will return to camp this week-end.

Finishes Basic Training

Pfc. Robert Hoffman has finished his basic training at Camp Van Dorn, Miss. "Bud" is expected home on furlough about May 1st.

Will Be Sent Overseas

A card from Pfc. Robert Hoffman with his overseas APO number was received this week by his wife and parents, but as yet it is not known where he will be sent.

Arrived Safely Overseas

With the U.S. Army in the South Pacific - Pvt. Robert E. Hoffman, husband of the former Iris Martin of Lowell, and son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Hoffman, also of Lowell, has arrived overseas.

A former employee of Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co., Indiana Harbor, he went to the South Pacific from Vancouver, Wash. Previously he was stationed at Camp Van Dorn, Miss., the Louisiana maneuver area, Kessler Field, Miss., and Camp Kearns, Utah.

Write from Pacific

Word has been received from Pfc. Robert E. Hoffman, by his wife and parents, saying he had been in New Caledonia, but has moved and can't reveal his present address. He said he was well and getting good food where he was now stationed.

Writes from Admiralty Islands

Word from Pfc. Robert E. Hoffman, from one of the Admiralty Islands, says he is feeling fine and getting excellent food, including tropical butter and milk. He has been stationed there since June. He said there were plenty of natives on the island, all of whom go barefoot an wear as little clothing as possible. He also said most of the islands in the south Pacific are self-supporting, having such foods as cocoa-nuts, pineapple, bananas, taro, yams, sago palm, breadfruit, fish of all kinds and crabs.

Having a Little Excitement

Word received from Pfc. Robert Hoffman by his parents, the Jacob Hoffmans, says he has been in a little action lately. Robert, stationed in the Philippines, says he is enjoying good health.

Word from Cpl. Robert E. Hoffman, who is stationed in the Philippines, says he is feeling fine, although it is very hot and dry there. He sent greetings to all his friends back home.

Letters received from S/Sgt. Robert Hoffman, who is now stationed at Manilla, says he expects to sail for home soon, hoping to make it by Christmas.

Two local boys who have seen much service in the Pacific theatre of war have received their discharges the past week.

S/Sgt. Robert (Bud) Hoffman arrived home last week from the west coast, after receiving his discharge from the army.

A letter from the navy personnel officer at Shoemaker, Calif., on Monday informed us that Hayden Patz, MM 2/c had received his discharge from the navy.

Robert E. (Bud) Hoffman, 56, Lowell, died Monday, Aug. 21 at St. Anthony Medical Center.

Survivors include wife Betty; three daughters, Mrs. Cynthia Hundley, La Mesa, Calif.; Mrs. Judith Lynn Castner, Poway, Calif.; Mrs. Rebeca Joe Pletka Lowell; two grandchildren, Shannon and Aaron Trueblood; brother John, Cape Coral, Fla.; sister Mrs. Betty Atwood, Hammond.

The Rev. W. Lynn Henry conducted services Wednesday, Aug. 23 at the Sheets Funeral Home. Burial followed at Orchard Grove cemetery.

The deceased was a retired mail carrier, a veteran of World War II, a lifetime member and past commander of VFW post 6841 and a member of American Legion post 101.
