Leg Broken

While Paul Mahler was driving his horse hitched to a buggy near Creston Tuesday afternoon, one side of the shaft broke loose, and the buggy, see-sawing around, struck the horse, which began to kick while Mr. Mahler endeavored to get hold of the shaft, and he received such a hard kick on the right leg that it was badly shattered. The injured man was taken to Dr. Davis' office and the leg dressed, after which he was taken home. Over a week ago his son Carl had one of his legs broken while loading a timber on to a wagon. Father and son have the sympathy of the entire community.

MARRIED 56 YEARS AGO

MR. AND MRS. PAUL MAHLER CELEBRATE THE EVENT IN A QUIET WAY

Friday was the 56th anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mahler and this estimable couple celebrated the event in a quiet way at their home on route 2, at the east edge of Lowell.

During the day their children called at the home and visited with their parents, making the day a happy one for them. Mr. Mahler is 80 years old and Mrs. Mahler is 76. Both were raised in this section, Mr. Mahler being born in Germany and coming here when a child, and they are now living in the house in which Mrs. Mahler was born.

Mr. and Mrs. Mahler have a host of friends in the vicinity in which they have resided so many years, who wish for them many more happy anniversaries.

They have five children -- Mrs. J. C. Dexter and Mrs. Ed Glover, of Crown Point; Mrs. G.C. Rouse, of Schneider; Miss Marie Mahler, of Gary, and Carl, of Lowell.
