Note: The names Harvey Windbigler, Glenn Surprise, Leslie Peterson, and Milo Loyd appear in The Lowell Tribune article on Oct. 24, 1918, as having been from the Three Creeks and Hanover Townships and having served their country during World War I. Leslie Peterson was listed as having served in the Marines; Harvey Windbigler, in the Field Artillery; and Milo Loyd and Glenn Surprise, in the Infantry Ordnance Dept, Engineer Corp., etc.
Surprisingly enough, the name Charles Tanner also appears under the heading "Coast Artillery"--on the same page and column! Either there were two men by this name, or there was some confusion about whether or not he was in the military. Charles Tanner's name did not appear on the Oct. 24, 1918, Lowell Tribune list of local World War I veterans.
Names of local men in service as well as those who tried to enlist but were rejected were listed in each issue of the paper.
