Hale’s Hall

Hale's Hall

This article appeared in the Mar. 30, 1983, Lowell Tribune, in the "Forty Years Ago" column:

    March 25, 1943

In looking thru an old book given him by his nephew, Elliott Buse, George Bailey found an invitation to a dance that was given here in the days of long ago. The invitation -- Christmas Dance -- Hale's Hall, Lowell, Ind. Monday Evening, Dec. 25. Committee of Invitation -- F. Nelson, Lowell; William Northrup, Lowell; Frank Cooper, Crown Point; James Palmer, Cedar Lake; H. Clement, Orchard Grove; Elmer Hayden, West Creek. Floor Managers -- H.H. Purdy and R. Driscoll. Music by Dutton and Babbit's String Band. Bill including Supper, $2. J.T. Atkins, Prop. The invitation does not say in what year the dance was held, but we know, if the card was printed in Lowell, that it was before our time, as we do not remember ever using any of the type with which the card was printed. From what we can learn Hale's hall was in the frame building that stood where the Lowell National bank is now located, and Frank Nelson, who was on the invitation was the first president of the Lowell National bank. If any of the old-timers can remember the year this dance was held, we would like to have them let us know.
