The following article was found in the April 29, 1943, Lowell Tribune on page 2, column 1:
- Pfc. Virgil Phillips, stationed at Camp Campbell, Ky., spent from Saturday until yesterday here with his parents, the E. S. Phillips. With 20 pounds of weight added, Virg doesn't look like army life was disagreeing with him.
The following March 13, 1958, Lowell Tribune article appeared on page 1, column 2:
Heart Attack Claims Virgil Phillips, 52
The community was saddened by the very sudden death last Friday morning, March 7, of Virgil Phillips, 52. In apparent good health, he suffered a fatal heart attack while enjoying coffee with friends at the Commercial Hotel. Lowell firemen administered oxygen, but he succumbed enroute to the hospital.A self-employed mechanic here, he was born in Illinois, March 20, 1905, and moved to the Lowell community with his parents many years ago.
He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Lowell Legion Post 101.
Memorial service were conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 9, in the Sheets Funeral Home, with the Rev. Father Chester Zurawiec, pastor of St. Edward's church, officiating. Burial was made beside his mother in the Lowell cemetery with Legionnaires presiding at the folding of the flag.
Survivors include his father, Ezra Phillips of Lowell; a brother, Vernon of Lansing, and a sister, Mrs. Esther Grish of Tacoma, Washington.
