Adam J. Kretz
An October 19, 1944, Lowell Tribune article about Vernon J. Kretz mentioned that his brother Adam was a sergeant in the Air Force in England.
This Lowell Tribune article was found in the January 18, 1945, issue (page 4, column 1):
- 15th AAF in Italy -- S/Sgt. Adam J. Kretz, son of Mrs. Veronica Kretz, Cedar Lake, has been awarded the air medal for "meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight."
- Sgt. Kretz, age 23, is a waist gunner in an Italy based 15th AAF B-17 flying fortress. He has flown six successful bombing missions against enemy targets in Europe.
- Kretz was graduated from Lowell high school in 1940. After his induction into the armed forces on Oct. 13, 1942, at Ft. Harrison, Ind., he completed airplane mechanics school at Keesler Field, Miss., on May 5, 1943 and aerial gunnery school at Larado army air field, Laredo, Tex., on July 3, 1943.
