Alexander Hamilton "Alex" Scritchfield (1847-1934)

The following May 3, 1934, Lowell Tribune article appeared on page 8, column 1:
    Alexander Hamilton Scritchfield, the eleventh child of Hiram and Esther Highfield Scritchfield, was born November 7, 1848, in Decatur county, Ind., and died at his home near Creston, Ind., April 29, 1934, at the age of 86 years, 5 months and 22 days. His parents came to Lake County to make their home here in 1852, when Mr. Scritchfield was five years old, and he has resided in this vicinity ever since. He was in marriage to Miss LeNora B. Dilly in 1872. To this union two sons were born: George M. and Freddie W., both preceding their father in death in their early manhood. Their mother passed to the Great Beyond on May 11, 1892.

    On January 15, 1896, he united in marriage with Mrs. Delpha I. Bussert who survives him.

    Mr. Scritchfield united with the Creston M.E. church in 1878 and remained a faithful member until his death. He was the last of his immediate family to depart this life of a family of fourteen children, seven sons and seven daughters.

    Kentucky was the native state of the parents and the birthplace of some of the children.

    There remains: his wife, a number of nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends who will miss him. The funeral services were held at the Creston M.E. church, Rev. T.H. Crowder, of Lowell, officiating. Interment was at the Creston cemetery, Tuesday, May 1, Sheets & Son, Undertakers.
