The Dec. 27, 1917, issue of The Lowell Tribune lists Charles Uhter as serving in the Navy during World War I (page 6, column 6).


This article from an unidentified newspaper, hand dated Jan. 26, 1967, was found in the Lowell Public Library's clipping files (LH--Vital Statistics, vol. 5, page 82):
    Final Rites For Charles Uhter Last Wednesday Charles H. Uhter, 72, passed away Jan. 22nd at his home near Shelby. He is survived by his wife Elvera; three daughters, Mrs. Shirley Barton of Lowell; Mrs. Barbara Bosak of Gary and Mrs. Kay Shrieber of Cedar Lake; one son, George of Crown Point; ten grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Nelda Bridegroom of Calumet City. Funeral arrangements were held Wednesday, 2 p.m. at Eskridge Funeral Home, with the Reverend Edward Boase officiating. Burial was in the Lowell Cemetery.
