The following information comes from a CD-Rom on the Surprise family created by Janet Umlauf:
- Kenneth Lyle SURPRISE was born on 16 Nov 1897 in Lowell, IN. He died on 23 Jan 1986 in Crown Point, IN St. Anthony's Hosp. He was buried on 25 Jan 1986 in Lowell, IN Lowell Cemetery. Ken went to school in Lowell and graduated from the 8th grade. Ken and his brother Percy had their hay making business when they were 13 & 14 years old. Their uncle (Love) bought them a horse drawn hay baler and they made payments to him. We have pictures of them making hay.
According to an Oct. 18, 1918, Lake County Star article about the death of Percy Surprise, his brother Kenneth was stationed in El Paso, Texas, at that time.
This July 16, 1925, Lowell Tribune birth announcement appeared on page 1, column 1:
- Born to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Surprise, Wednesday, July 8th, a son.
