Waldo L. "Babe" Bartz
The following article from the Lowell Tribune (Dec. 7, 1939) can be found in the"By Gone Years--60 Years Ago" article in the December 21, 1999, issue on page 21, column 8:
- Waldo Bartz, who is serving in the united States Coast Guard, and is stationed in Chicago, visited his father, W.W. Bartz, and his brothers several days the past week.
The following March 11, 1943, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 6:
- Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Bartz left last Thursday from New York City, where they are visiting his son, Waldo, and family. Waldo has been a member of the U.S. coast guard for some time and is stationed at New York.
The following April 22, 1943, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 3:
- Mrs. Ned Williams left last weekend for New York City to join her husband who is in the U.S. navy and will be stationed there for some time. Until they can find living quarters, the Williams will stay with Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Bartz, who have made New York City their home for some time. Waldo is a member of the U.S. coast guard. All four of these young folks were members of the class of '39 at L.H.S. and naturally their get-together will be in the nature of a class reunion.
This March 2, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- Athens, Ga. -- Waldo L. Bartz, chief yeaoman, USCG, of Shelby, formerly of Lowell, has completed 3 months of physical conditioning and ground school work at the U.S. Navy Pre-Flight school here. He has been ordered to the Naval Air Station at Dallas, Tex., to begin progressive flight training preparatory to joining a combat unit.
- Bartz, who enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1939, reported here from the CAA training service school, Kilgore, Tex.
The following June 8, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
Returns to Camp
Chief Yeoman Waldo Bartz returned to Dallas, Texas, last Monday after he and his family had enjoyed a 10-day leave with his father, W.W.Bartz, and wife, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sirois, and family. With the expectation that "Babe" will soon be transferred, Mrs. Bartz remained here for the present.This October 26, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 4, column 1:
Get Together in Honolulu
Writing his wife, the former Eleanor Sirois, chief Yeoman Waldo (Babe) Bartz says that he had a very pleasant day with Ned Williams, E.M. 2/c, whom he met in Honolulu recently.The following April 26, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 4, column 1:
- Coast Guardsman Waldo L. Bartz, chief yeoman, of Lowell, is aboard the Coast Guard manned invasion transport on which he is serving somewhere in the Pacific invasion theatre. Bartz' vessel participated in the invasion of Okinawa.
This May 17, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- Waldo Bartz, Chief Yeoman, who has been on active duty in the Southwest Pacific with the U.S. Coast Guard, is home on leave, visiting his wife, the former Eleanor Sirois, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sirois, at Shelby, and his father, W.W. Bartz, and wife, of Thayer.
