John E. Gregg (Gragg) (1891-1954)

The following newspaper article, hand-identified as being from the January 6, 1955, Tribune, was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:

JOHN GREGG, FORMER RESIDENT OF SHELBY, DIES IN ARKANSAS

John E. Gregg, age 63, was born in Lowell on July 3, 1891, the son of Charles and Carrie (Durkee) Gregg, and died in Bigelow, Arkansas, December 25th, 1954, following a long illness.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Anna Gregg; one daughter, Mrs. Ida Powell of Bigelow; three step-daughters, Mrs. Guy Smith and Mrs. Clifford Marsh of Shelby, and Mrs. Bryon Rentschler of Rochester, Ind.; two step-sons, Robert Stinnett of Valparaiso, and George Stinnett of Gary; two brothers, Ben and Winnie Gregg of Chicago; one sister, Mrs. Ida Condon of Brookfield, Ill.; also 20 grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Gregg moved to Arkansas 5 years ago for his health.

Funeral services and burial were held at Bigelow on Tuesday, December 28.
