The following article was found in the January 28, 1943, Lowell Tribune on page 2, column 1:

    Enjoying Panama Weather

    Pvt. Jim Nichols, after spending all but the first few weeks since his induction, in Panama, is now getting used to the torrid climate and daily takes advantage of the warm weather by swimming. He was recently transferred a few miles from the camp in Panama where he received his basic training.

This February 4, 1943, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:

    Doing Office Work

    Pvt. James Nichols, who is stationed in Panama, writes that he is now employed at office work and is serving as court and board clerk in the department handling court-martials and all questions pertaining to military law. Jim adds:

    "Although we are located in the deep jungle, there are many modern facilities -- a day room is equipped with pool and ping pong tables, and best of all, a good radio to get United States programs.

    "It is a 15-minute walk to the ocean, where we swim almost every day. And, hah! -- it's warm!"


The following April 15, 1943, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 6, column 3:

    James Nichols Promoted

    In a letter to his wife this week, James Nichols, who has been stationed in Panama since last November, states that he has been promoted from Private to Corporal, skipping Private First Class.

The following January 20, 1944, Lowell Tribune artilce was fouind on page 5, column 3:
    Mrs. James Nichols arrived home last week after spending the past few weeks at Biloxi, Miss., with her husband, Cpl. James Nichols, who is stationed at Kessler Field.

This January 27, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
    Keesler Field, Miss. -- Cpl. James A. Nichols, husband of Mrs. Dorothy Nichols, Lowell, was enrolled this week in the Keesler Field B-24 Liberator bomber mechanics school.
    Cpl. Nichols will begin the intensive Army Air Forces Training Command 17-week course in airplane mechanics, successful completion of which will lead to his assignment either to active duty on the line, servicing and maintaining the huge bombers which are carrying the war to the enemy, or to a factory or gunnery school.

The following October 19, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 4 column 3:

    Returns to Keesler Field

    Cpl. James Nichols and wife, who have been here visiting relatives and friends the past two weeks, left yesterday for Keesler Field, Miss., where Jim is stationed as a mechanic on B-24 bombers. Mrs. Nichols drives a staff car at the field.

This Lowell Tribune article was found in the February 1, 1945, issue (page 4, column 1):
    Sgt. and Mrs. James Nichols are here from Biloxi, Miss., visiting relatives and friends. Jim is stationed at the air field near there.

This November 29, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 4:
    Sgt. James Nichols and wife are here visiting her sister, Mrs. Ernie Olson and family. Jim has been stationed in Mississippi.
