Now a Sergeant Technician
Mr. and Mrs. E.S. Phillips received a letter the past week from their son, Vernon, stating that he had been promoted to Sergt. Technician. Vernon is stationed at Huntsville Internment Camp at Huntsville, Texas.The following article was found in the April 1, 1943, Lowell Tribune on page 2, column 1:
- Sergt. Vernon Phillips, who has been stationed at the internment camp at Hunstville, Texas, has been transferred to Camp Madill, Okla., where a new camp is being opened. He will be stationed in the personnel office.
The following April 15, 1943, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 6, column 3:

Sgt. Vernon Phillips has been transferred from Camp Madill, at Madill, Oklahoma, to Gainesville, Fla., where he is to attend Administrative Officers' Candidate school.This January 27, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- Lt. Vernon F. Phillips returned to the army air base at Alamagordo, New Mex., after spending a 10-day leave here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.S. Phillips and other relatives and friends.
The following May 25, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 5:
- A son was born to Lt. and Mrs. Vernon Phillips at Harvey, Ill., last Sunday. Lt. Phillips is serving with the U. S. forces overseas.
The following June 29, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
Promoted to 1st Lieut.
Mr. and Mrs. E.S. Phillips have received word from their son, Vernon, who is serving overseas, that he has been promoted to 1st Lieutenant.A July 26, 1945, Lowell Tribune article found on page 2, column 1 listed several servicemen who were home, among them, Lt. Vernon Phillips, home from overseas.
This September 20, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- 1st Lt. Vernon F. Phillips, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.S. Phillips, Lowell, has been honorably discharged from the army. A veteran of the European theater of operations, Lt. Phillips served for 16 months as adjutant of a heavy bomb squadron, and was awarded six battle stars. He entered the army October 15, 1942, and was commissioned June 30, 1943.
- Lt. Phillips graduated from Gallagher Business School, Kankakee, and before entering the army was employed as an account[ant] by Buda Company, Harvey, Ill.
This September 27, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 4:
- Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Phillips have moved back to their home at Harvey, Ill., following Mr. Phillips' discharge from the service last week.
