This Lowell Tribune obituary was found in the October 3, 2000, issue (page 8, column 5):
    Carl E. Pittman, age 78, a lifelong resident of Cedar Lake, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2000, in Gainesville, Florida. He is survived by: his wife, Betty Pittman; four brothers, Bob (Lois) Pittman of Williston, Florida, Doc (Judy) Pittman of Merrillville, Rhuben Pittman of St. John and Jerry (Diane) Pittman of Cedar Lake; four sisters, Irene Barclay of Colfax, Betty Foreman of Hobart, Eva Larson of Bronson, Florida, and Janet (Donald) Morrison of Crown Point and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. September 30 at Burdan Funeral Home in Cedar Lake, with Pastor Arlyn Walters officiating. Interment followed at the German Methodist Cemetery in Cedar Lake. Visitation was held from 5-9 p.m. September 29 at the funeral home. Having served in the military in World War II with honor, Carl Pittman was a member of American Legion Post #430 in Merrillville for over 55 years. He was a member of Electrician's Union Local #697 of Hammond.
