This January 7, 1943, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
    Pvt. James VanDuersen, who enlisted in the Marines several weeks ago, has been transferred from San Diego, Calif., to Norman, Okla., where he will attend school.
This February 18, 1943, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 4:
    Mrs. Mabel VanDuerson spent the week-end with her son, James VanDuerson, who is attending naval school at Norman, Okla.
This February 24, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
    A letter received by Mrs. Mabel Van Deursen from her son, Sgt. James Van Deursen, stationed with the marines "somewhere in the Pacific war theatre," informs her that he is getting along fine, and that he had been transferred to the fighting marine air wing of his outfit.
The following August 24, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 4, column 1:

    Promoted to Staff Sergeant

    A letter to Mrs. Mabel VanDeursen from her son, James, stationed with the U.S. forces in the Pacific war theater, informs her that he had been promoted to Staff Sgt. Jim was O.K. when the letter was written.
The following December 28, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 2:
    Sgt. James VanDeursen left for South Carolina last Friday after spending his furlough here with his mother, Mrs. Mabel VanDeursen, and other relatives. Jim was granted a 30-day furlough after returning from nearly two years duty in the south Pacific.
This Lowell Tribune article was found in the August 30, 1945, issue (page 2, column 2):
    Sgt. James VanDeursen of the Marines, is here visiting his mother, Mrs. Mabel VanDeursen, and sister. Jim has just returned from overseas duty.
This September 6, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
    S/Sgt. Jim VanDeursen and wife left yesterday for Cherry Point, N.C., after spending 15 days here with his mother and sister. Jim, a recent bridegroom, was married in August.
