The following February 21, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 2:
- Pvt. Fred Lutgen, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank M. Lutgen of R.R. 2, Lowell, is attending cartographic classes at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, School of Engineering, since completing his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. His new address is: Pvt. Fred M. Lutgen, Jr., U.S. 55200401, Co. B, 1st Sch. Bn. Tecr., A22, Ft. Belvoir, Va.
Note that although the son's name is Fred M. Lutgen, Jr., this article lists his father as Frank M. Lutgen.
This March 13, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 1:
- The Tribune this week is being mailed to Ralph Barker and Fred Lutgen, Jr., at new addresses which we pass on to their home friends, noting that cards and letters would be most welcome.

This June 5, 1952, Lowell Tribune artilce was found on page 2, column 4:
- With the 7th Infantry Div. in Korea -- Pvt. Frederick M. Lutgen, Jr., whose parents live on route 2, Lowell, is now serving with the 7th Infantry Division in the west central sector of the front in North Korea.
Despite a halt in large-scale action, men of the division move out daily in raiding and reconnaissance patrols against enemy installations.
Pvt. Lutgen, a member of the reconnaissance and ammunition platoon, entered the Army in September, 1951.
He is a 1948 graduate of Lowell high school and was employed by the Republic Steel Corp. in Chicago.
