Faith Louise Wason (1892-1920)
- Faith Louise Wason was born July 4, 1892 at Lake Prairie, Indiana. She received her early education in the Lake Prairie and Lowell schools. The years 1910 and 1912 were spent at Western College, Oxford, Ohio, and she later finished preparing for her chosen profession by two years (1913-1915) at the National Kindergarten school in Chicago. Since that time, she has taught in the primary departments of the schools in Schneider and Elkart, Indiana, and for one summer was instructor at Lincoln Memorial University, Parrogate, Tennessee.
In July 1919 she started work in Teachers' college, Columbia University. She was there until February 1920, when illness necessitated her removal to New Haven hospital. This illness proved to be endocarditis, which resulted in her death on Saturday evening July 31, 1920.
Her life as a girl and woman has been spent among the people of this community. Because of her sweet and winning personality and her earnest Christian character, she will be sadly missed by hosts of friends, to whom she has endeared herself every where. As a member of the Lake Prairie church, she was a loyal and enthusiastic worker. In her professional as well as personal life, she always maintained that spirit of cheer and courage which was so typically her own.
For her there can be no death -- she has only gone on to complete the work begun here.
I cannot say, and I will not say
That she is dead -- she is just away.
With a tender smile and a wave of her hand
She has wandered into an Unknown Land,
And left us wondering how very fair
It needs must be, since she lingers there,
And you, oh! You, who the wildest, yearn
For the old time step and the glad return --
Think of her faring on, as dear,
In the love of There, as the love of here.
Think of her only, then, I say,
She is not dead, she is just away.
Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday. Interment was made at Lake Prairie cemetery. Undertaker Weaver had charge of the burial service.
