    Harvey SURPRISE was born on 24 Dec 1834 in IN. He died on 15 Jul 1910 in Buffalo, KS. First white child born in a log cabin in Lake County.

    Military service between 10 Aug 1862-1 Jul 1865 Indiana, Company I, 73rd Regiment, Infantry.

    In the 1860 Census of West Creek Township, Lake County, Indiana, Harvey had two hired hands: Alden Stiles, born about 1845 in New York, and David Benjamin, born about 1829 in Pennsylvania.

    Harvey came from French Canadian descent. He owned his own farm.

    He had a hired hand named Albert Harvel, born Feb. 1881. This information came from the 1900 Census of Woodson County, Kansas.

    In 1910 Harvey had three "Lodgers,": George Newport, born about 1872; Arthur Mathews, born about 1875; and Joseph Knawa, born about 1878. This information came from the 1910 Census of Wilson County, Kansas, Clifton Township.
