John Melvin Wheeler (1872-1929)

The following July 18, 1929, Lowell Tribune article appeared on page 1, column 2:
John Melvin Wheeler, sixth child of William and Alvina Wheeler, was born in West Creek township, Lake county, Indiana, September 8, 1872, and after an illness of ten years passed away at his home in Hammond, Tuesday, July 16, 1929, at the age of 56 years, 10 months and 8 days.

He was united in marriage October 1, 1896, to Maude A. Taylor. To this union six children were born. One child preceded him in death, Cecil, who died in infancy.

He was a member of the Hawthorne Arbor Ancient Order of Gleaners.

Through his long illness there was no one more patient and kind, thinking more about the welfare of others than of his own suffering. He was a kind and loving husband and father.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his loving wife, Maude; one daughter, Mrs. Ruby Evans, of Hammond, Ind.; four sons, Harry, of Frederic, Wis.; Harold and Raymond, of Hammond, and Burdette of Stevensville, Montana; one brother, Jesse, of Texas; five sisters, Mrs. Eunice McCarty, Mrs. Martha Bryant, Mrs. Ella Taylor, Mrs. Bertha Edgerton and Mrs. Maude Ewer, all of Lowell, and a host of other relatives and friends.
