The following unidentified newspaper article (ca. 1904) was found in a scrapbook owned by Betty Burton of Lowell:
Box Social.
The box social given by the Athletic Association at the school building last Friday night was a very successful social event, and the boys feel proud of the honors shown them. Although the weather was inclement, still there was a large attendance, and there was a whirlpool of enjoyment prevailing all evening. The boxes of viands furnished by the young ladies brought good prices, as the proceeds of $63 show. A pleasing program was rendered. Miss Pryse favored the audience with a song and received much applause, which she earned, for she has a rich, sweet voice. A spirited contest took place as to who was the prettiest young lady. Each vote cost a penny. The contest soon narrowed down to Miss Pryse and Miss Edith Kenney, and Edith securing the most votes, was awarded a nice box of candy. The boys are highly elated over their success, and all feel that they got their money's worth.A copy of the following unidentified newspaper article was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:
- Lowell relatives and friends received word last Wednesday of the death of Mrs. Henry Knoll, the former Edith Kenney of Lowell. Mrs. Knoll passed away suddenly on December 26, at Greencastle, where she had resided for some years. She was the daughter of the late Will Kenneys, natives of the Orchard Grove community. Edith had one sister, Mrs. Ed (Blanchard Kenney) Ellingwood of Pasadena, Calif., who came from the West Cost to attend funeral services held Saturday in Greencastle. Mrs. Knoll has many cousins in this area.
