Supplement to the London Gazette
Dec. 16, 1919
- Marcia A. Tedford, of Momence, Township e-mailed a page from a 1919 Gazette with the following explanation:
- I have attached a sheet of the Supplement to the London Gazette, 16, December 1919. 2nd Lt. Patrick Alva O'Brien was awarded the Military Cross by His Majesty, King George V. There is a description of the reason for awarding the Military Cross. Pat is mentioned in the right hand column about 3/4 the way down. This award by the King was conferred 2 years after Pat returned to Momence and 2 years after his audience with the King before he returned to Momence after his escape. I am not sure he actually received the Military Cross. Newspaper articles write he was to be given the Medal a couple of nights before he committed suicide.
