DEATH OF MRS. MOORE
DIED: -- Mrs. Eliza Moore died at her home in the east part of town at 12:30 P.M. Saturday, August 14, 1897. The funeral was held at the Christian church, Monday morning at 10 o'clock. The remains were interred in the Sherburnville cemetery.Eliza A. Sargent was born December 31, 1825, in Fountain county, Indiana. She moved with her parents to Kankakee county, Illinois, in 1835; settled in Momence on the Kankakee river, remaining there or near there until married to Woster D. Cleaver on the 8th of April, 1844. He died in 1867. To this union 5 children were born -- 3 girls and 2 boys. She united with the Christian church in the fall of 1844 in which she has. . . [The article was torn off at this point.]
A copy of the following unidentified newspaper article was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:
- Eliza A. Sargent was born December 31, 1825 in Franklin County, Indiana, and died at her home near Lowell, August 14, 1897, aged 71 years, 7 months, and 15 days. She moved with her parents to Kankakee County, Ill., and settled in Momence on the Kankakee River, remaining there, or near there, until she was married to Woster D. Cleaver on April 8, 1844. He died in 1867. To this union five children were born, three girls and two boys, four of which live to mourn her loss. She united with the Christian church in the fall of 1844 and was a faithful member until her death. She leaves to mourn her departure two sons, two daughters, three brothers, two sisters, ten grandchildren and many friends. She was married to Mr. Andrew Moore who preceded her several years to the Spirit Land.
